Jun 26, 2009 - Friday - Status update

730AM Friday all three juveniles were spotted, two on the southern elevator shaft, Marla on one of Mom's perches. They were likely waiting for breakfast.

Out of necessity, my own monitoring efforts must be reduced in the near term, but please consider that our young are still fragile and may get themselves into danger, any eyes on them are helpful. As possible I will continue monitoring, but assistance is appreciated.

In the days to follow the juvies will continue to hone their flying skills, and eventually start learning to intercept food in mid-air. Their world will expand when they realize there's life beyond the property they've called home up until now. Let's hope for their ongoing safety and that they learn to thrive in this wild/urban environment.

On a daily basis, for anyone able to observe, it would be helpful to watch for the following:

-are all 3 being seen daily? If not a local walkaround may be needed.
-is Mom around and looking healthy?
-is our visitor adult falcon appearing, and if so is there any combat with Mom?
-any other unexpected circumstances or concerning behaviour

If you have any concerns, residents can continue to contact security, or feel free to email me using the info on this site. (Click here)

Lastly, I don't want to suggest that the watch is over, but I would like to sincerely thank the watch team, distant web viewers who sent me their observations (and provided me with ongoing support), helpful residents, and building staff, security, and management. Those who invested their time know it's sometimes challenging, but also rewarding to do our part in assisting the recovery of the at-risk Peregrine population, and to learn about these amazing birds.
